Friday we found ourselves at Thompson Park, which is a park we had visited several times early last spring but hadn’t visited again in over a year. Their play area is fun and all, but the real attraction is the big pond down the hill which is usually fully stocked with ducks and geese of all shapes and sizes. We arrived a bit earlier than our friends (the Peddi’s) and there was no holding them back – the girls were ready to go feed those ducks right away!
Sissy was super stoked about feeding the ducks, and grinned from ear to ear…
… except, that is, for when she was actually jumping up and down and clapping
Scarlett was thoroughly engrossed as well, but much more “grown-up” and serious about tearing the bread into the right sized chunks and trying to aim directly for the ducks:
Victoria tries to be serious about it too, but her 20-month-old giddiness about the ducks being RIGHT THERE is just too much to stifle:
After Erica and Elizabeth arrived and fed the ducks as well, we headed back up to the play area which weirdly features this gigantic rock – or as Scarlett called it, “the mountain”:
After a picnic lunch in the pavilion area, we headed down to a bridge area built over the pond at Scarlett’s request. Sissy was happy to traipse along… so long as she could bring her apple (of course):
Scarlett LOVES to run, and this bridge and the accompanying car-less driveway seemed to beckon for some running of laps:
Scarlett, running full tilt and giggling the whole time:
Sissy, running half-tilt, mostly concerned with continuing to take bites of her apple:
All the girls were running, but poor Elizabeth was getting lapped in part caused by her short legs and in part because she was carrying a bottle of water she refused to set down. After several laps with Scarlett and Victoria going strong, Elizabeth seemed to suddenly think running was the worst thing ever:
Ah, there we go – an activity they can all agree on… watching the ducks zoom across the pond:
After so much running and playing outside in the hot sun, we headed home and did our usual routine of washing up, throwing on jammies, and eating some fruit and crackers while the girls relaxed before naptime. I was checking my email in the kitchen when Scarlett came up about 10 minutes into their Curious George episode and giggled, “Sissy is fast asleep, Mommy.” I headed in to see and sure enough, Victoria was so worn out that she had fallen asleep literally mid-bite of her cracker and was out cold!
